About the role
The New York City Business Integrity Commission (“BIC”) is a law enforcement and regulatory agency formed in 1996. BIC regulates the commercial garbage collection industry and public wholesale markets in NYC to eliminate organized crime and create a healthy business environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations relating to applicants for Commission-issued licenses and registrations
- Make recommendations regarding regulatory determinations
- Draft commission decisions and directives
- Work with the Deputy Commissioner of Legal Affairs to provide legal and policy advice and support to the agency
- Conduct other legal work related to the agency’s jurisdiction
- Conduct sworn interviews of and engage in other direct contact with applicants and related individuals
- Draft document requests and subpoenas
- Research and analyze applicable law and formulate recommendations on legal, legislative and policy issues
- Conduct settlement negotiations and hearings related to administrative violations and other issues
- Work collaboratively with the Investigations Unit and Audit Unit
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies on criminal investigations
- Coordinate with the NYC Law Department on litigation matters involving the agency
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work
- Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment
Qualifications
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work
- Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment

$115,000 - $125,000 annually
