About the role

183-day position for the 2026-2027 school year. Salary: $21,066 base salary (based on education and full-time experience). Location: North Hartsville Elementary. A negative TB test must be on file prior to starting work. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the general education setting.
• Implement plans for instruction and monitor student behavior.
• Act as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support classroom objectives and meet IEP goals.
• Administer tests, homework, make-up work, etc. to support student needs in the classroom.
• Assist students with personal hygiene and care needs (e.g., diapering, lifting, transitioning from desk to wheelchair).
• Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions.
• Communicate with supervising instructional staff, healthcare professionals, and support personnel regarding student progress or IEP objectives.
• Escort students to ensure safe arrival to and from destinations (e.g., bathroom, classroom, community).
• Implement, under supervision, research-based interventions to present and/or reinforce learning concepts.
• Intervene in potential conflicts using appropriate physical and/or therapeutic approaches to diffuse confrontations and minimize disruptions.
• Monitor student’s daily schedule and behavior plan to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provide instruction to students in individual and group activities under supervision to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and ensure access to the least restrictive environment.
• Supervise individual and/or groups of students in various settings (e.g., community field trips, hallways, bus loading areas, cafeteria, parking lots, classrooms) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Supervise and escort students during emergency drills or actual emergencies to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Collect data on student’s IEP goals to maintain accurate records and engage in data-based decision-making.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of sixty (60) academic credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education, OR
• An associate degree (or higher), OR
• High School Diploma or the equivalent AND Ready to Work Credentials:
  • WIN Assessment — minimum of Level 3 certification, OR
  • ParaPro — copy of passing score (minimum 456) on the state-approved academic assessment.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
