Examiner Nurse Practitioner

About the role

As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, aiming to positively impact their access to benefits and continuity of care.

Clinical Examiners will use a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities.
• Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to understand the Veteran's medical history and health condition.
• Render objective, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of the Veteran's health issues and their impact on work and daily activities.
• Work within a case management system to organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information for thorough evaluations.
• Document examination findings, medical opinions, and recommendations in clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
• Partner with Loyal Source departments to utilize resources, meet deadlines, and ensure optimal performance.
• Manage time effectively, confirm availability, and schedule all Compensation and Pension (C&P) exams.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, maintaining accuracy, fairness, and quality.
• Work collaboratively with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings.
• Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
• Safeguard the confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA and other privacy protocols.

Requirements

• Graduate of a professional nursing school accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license, eligible to practice in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, or U.S. territories.
• At least 1 year of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, including renewals.
• Previous experience in conducting medical disability examinations or a related field is preferred.
• Previous military experience or familiarity with the military or veteran communities is preferred.
• Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
• Demonstrated proficiency in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence-based medical opinions.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex medical concepts clearly.
• Compassionate and empathetic approach toward patients, ensuring a respectful and patient-centered evaluation process.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy, data quality, and adherence to standards.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives.
• Strong customer focus and ability to perform with a sense of urgency.
• Authorized to work in the United States and maintain requirements specific to federal contractors.
• Competent in the use of MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, and electronic medical records systems.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and web-based instructional/learning management systems is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing and sitting at a desk while working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to see, hear, smell, bend, stretch, and engage in full range of motion to safely conduct comprehensive physical examinations.

Travel Requirements

10% travel is required to support other clinics. Additional travel may be required for training or company events.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Clinics are closed on holidays.

Pay

$148,345.60 - $178,345.60 based on experience and qualifications.
