Shift: PRN 3rd shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
About the Role
Join our Environmental Services team at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital and play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and infection control to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms (occupied and unoccupied), public areas, surgical areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Stock supplies and maintain equipment in working order.
- Follow safety and infection control guidelines to uphold hospital cleanliness standards.
- Provide excellent service to hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
- Collaborate with the Environmental Services Manager to ensure tasks meet high-quality standards.
- Perform detailed cleaning of vents, fixtures, windows, door frames, furniture, and other areas as needed.
- Clean public areas including lobbies, waiting rooms, restrooms, elevators, utility rooms, exam rooms, offices, and stairwells.
- Collect and replace sharps and black pharmacy box containers in patient care areas.
- Document and maintain records of assigned cleaning tasks.
- Restock supplies in assigned areas as needed.
- Communicate effectively with nurses, patient care assistants, patients, families, and visitors.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and unit data per HIPAA regulations.
- Remove trash and soiled linen from assigned areas and transport to disposal sites.
- Operate mechanical floor equipment such as IMops, vacuums, sweepers, and related tools.
- Clean and store equipment in designated locations.
- Direct visitors as needed and collect trays from patient rooms.
- Coordinate cleaning activities with the department coordinator.
- Attend regular staff meetings and support the Bronson Management System through huddles and problem-solving methods.
- Operate ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment (Surfacide UV Robot).
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including use of trash compactors and emptying trash/linen chutes.
Requirements

- Previous experience in cleaning or maintenance is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work independently and communicate in English (verbally and in writing) at or above an 8th-grade level.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to accept delegation and negotiate task priorities.
- Capability to handle mental/visual fatigue typical of jobs with frequent deadlines.
- Regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds) and assist with heavier tasks.
- Perform duties while standing, sitting, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Work on a stepladder at heights up to four feet and maintain good balance.
- Occasional exposure to risk when working with electrical equipment or in confined spaces.
- Ability to walk stairs and handle emergency or crisis situations as needed.
- Wear protective clothing, including gloves, eye protection, face protection, and shoe covers.
