About the role

Responsible for executing daily duties to establish and maintain a safe, hygienic, and aesthetically pleasing care environment. Provide corrective cleansing action for rooms and public areas while engaging with staff, visitors, patients, and patients' families as needed. This role ensures cleansing standards align with the Association for Health Care Environment (AHE) publication Practice Guidance for Health Care Environmental Cleaning policies, contributing to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and patient experience. Initially filled as a temporary position; conversion to a permanent Children’s Health position may be possible based on demonstrated performance and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Assist supervisors with daily operations to guide team members and demonstrate leadership qualities.
• Clean and disinfect patient care areas, including daily occupied and discharge/transfer rooms, clinical, ancillary, and support services. Tasks include dusting, vacuuming, gathering and disposing of trash and waste materials, removing linens, cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and patient rooms, fixtures, wet mopping, and similar duties.
• Maintain assigned equipment and cleaning carts, ensuring cleanliness and arranging repairs as needed. Restock supplies and equipment.
• Manage waste disposal (regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous).
• Take corrective action for unsatisfactory cleanliness observed in any hospital area, such as removing litter in public spaces.
• Train employees with a respectful and positive approach, motivating and encouraging team members.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of related experience.
• Ability to demonstrate effective use of computers and/or movable devices for job performance activities.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) certification from the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE) within the first year of hire.
• One of the following certifications within the first year of hire:
  • Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT) certification, or
  • Certified Non-Acute Care Cleaning (CNACC) certification from the Association for the Health Care Environment.
