About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by following infection control procedures.
  • Clean resident’s rooms, apartments, bathrooms, employee areas, offices, etc.
  • Sweep, mop, wipe down all countertops, and sanitize using the proper chemicals in all assigned areas, including resident’s rooms, bathrooms, offices, and public areas.
  • Keep utility storage rooms in good order by arranging supplies neatly and sweeping and mopping the floor.
  • Care for cleaning equipment to ensure it is clean and functional.
  • Perform work in the laundry room if assigned.
  • Participate in in-service training, follow the Fire Plan, and abide by the Patient’s Bill of Rights and the Maryland Masonic Homes’ policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous related experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary for providing quality care.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices.
  • Must be able to meet the standards of the MMH STARS Customer Service Program.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds and push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
  • Slip-resistant shoes are required.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Duties require bending, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting daily.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
