Evidence Synthesis Information Scientist
About the role
The Evidence Synthesis Information Scientist supports evidence synthesis research at Virginia Tech, working collaboratively with the Evidence Synthesis Services team.
Responsibilities
- Serves as an ambassador for high-quality evidence synthesis at Virginia Tech
- Conducts systematic review search strategy development, implementation, and documentation
- Supports others in evidence synthesis search methodologies and standards
- Provides reference or research assistance and instruction/training in an academic, research, or clinical environment
- Designs, plans, implements, and maintains complex projects
- Collaborates with colleagues to problem-solve and share knowledge
- Contributes to the fields of evidence synthesis and librarianship through scholarly and professional activities
- Participates in institutional or professional committees
Requirements
- Masters degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program; OR advanced degree in a position-related field
- Demonstrated experience leading systematic review search strategy development, implementation, and documentation
- Demonstrated experience conducting systematic review searches in various databases
- Demonstrated experience using and supporting others in evidence synthesis search methodologies and standards
- Demonstrated experience providing reference or research assistance and instruction/training
- Demonstrated experience in outreach, relationship building, and collaboration
- Demonstrated experience in project management
- Demonstrated ability to effectively understand and communicate complex ideas
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in evidence synthesis, including systematic review search strategies
- Experience with evidence synthesis project management tools
- Experience with conducting primary research
- Experience with advanced statistical analyses
- Experience with text or data mining, machine learning, language models, or other AI tools
- Experience in or support of engineering, computer science, or environmental science
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience peer reviewing systematic review search strategies
- Experience using and/or training others in evidence synthesis project management tools
- Experience providing support or instruction for developing and refining research scope; critical appraisal of primary research; systematic data extraction or coding; approaches to synthesizing qualitative evidence; and/or archiving supplemental material
- Experience conducting primary research
- Experience with text or data mining, machine learning, language models, or other AI tools for evidence synthesis
- Experience in or support of engineering, computer science, or environmental science
