Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Take ownership of and work multiple facets of field observations, including:
- Review and log field observers' notes and identify and propose avenues of pursuing violations and other items of potential interest
- View, carefully listen to and transcribe recordings, and catalog incidents for use in complaints and/or publication
- Independently assess evidence for violations of laws and regulations and draft detailed complaints to various agencies
- Cook up, lead internal and external meetings, including with public officials and humane agents, related to the public release of field observations
- Perform a variety of writing, research, and administrative tasks in preparation for the public release of field observations
- Initiate research and interpretation of a variety of animal-protection issues in order to further field observations
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
- Degree in a related field and a minimum of three years of relevant experience
- Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
- Demonstrated ability to transcribe audio recordings and describe contents of video recordings accurately
- Proven meticulous attention to detail and excellent analytical and editing skills
- Proven ability to conduct in-depth legal and other research
- Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to make sound, independent judgments
- Proven excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle many issues simultaneously
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
- Willingness and ability to travel
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. drivers' license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
- Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's position on issues
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
