Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Take ownership of and work multiple facets of field observations, including:
    • Review and log field observers' notes and identify and propose avenues of pursuing violations and other items of potential interest
    • View, carefully listen to and transcribe recordings, and catalog incidents for use in complaints and/or publication
    • Independently assess evidence for violations of laws and regulations and draft detailed complaints to various agencies
    • Cook up, lead internal and external meetings, including with public officials and humane agents, related to the public release of field observations
    • Perform a variety of writing, research, and administrative tasks in preparation for the public release of field observations
  • Initiate research and interpretation of a variety of animal-protection issues in order to further field observations
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
  • Requirements

    • Degree in a related field and a minimum of three years of relevant experience
    • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
    • Demonstrated ability to transcribe audio recordings and describe contents of video recordings accurately
    • Proven meticulous attention to detail and excellent analytical and editing skills
    • Proven ability to conduct in-depth legal and other research
    • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Proven ability to make sound, independent judgments
    • Proven excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle many issues simultaneously
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
    • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
    • Willingness and ability to travel
    • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. drivers' license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
    • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's position on issues
    • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
    • Pay

      The hourly pay range for this position is $19.30 - $24.58. The ultimate hourly pay within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience.
