About the role

A web designer is an expert in creating the graphic design of a website, known as the graphic charter. This profession combines creative skills and technical know-how, bridging the roles of web integrator, computer graphics designer, and art director. Web designers work in publishing, advertising, and IT service sectors, specializing in the digital and multimedia world.

Companies and brands rely on web designers to define the graphic, ergonomic, and visual interface of their internet platforms. This requires mastery of graphic and ergonomic techniques, IT tools for website design and integration, image processing, and graphics software. Additionally, web designers must have in-depth knowledge of communication and marketing strategies. They typically work as part of a team with other web professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Target the needs of the client company in relation to its objectives and context.
  • Define specifications, including animation scenarios, graphic charter, interactivity, site architecture, ergonomics, and tree structure.
  • Develop graphic elements essential to the site’s visual identity, such as Flash animations, banners, and illustrations.
  • Produce models and combine images and text, using color and creativity to engage web users.
  • Design sales aids and communication materials.
  • Ensure post-delivery monitoring of each project.
  • Maintain commercial relations with clients.
  • Make adjustments and alterations based on continuous technological and commercial monitoring.
  • Supervise the work of web integrators, computer graphics designers, and graphic artists, considering technical, functional, and artistic constraints.

Qualifications

While there is no compulsory qualification for web designers, most professionals hold an artistic diploma from a course of study ranging from Bac+3 to Bac+5. Relevant programs include visual and digital creation or art direction and visual design, often offered through specialized schools.
