Event Staff (STUDENT/WORK STUDY)
Job Summary
This is an hourly position for current and incoming UM-Flint students (work-study preferred).
Responsibilities
- Open and close meeting rooms and event spaces.
- Perform room set-ups and take-downs for events and programs including tables, linens, chairs, podiums, coat racks, staging, and other furnishings (repeated heavy lifting required).
- Set-up and troubleshoot with audio-visual equipment (projectors, laptops, sound systems, sound cords, microphones, speakers, VGA/HDMI cords, etc.). Specific training will be provided.
- Clean meeting rooms and event spaces between events and programs including, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, wiping down furniture, cleaning windows, walls, etc.
- Represent the University of Michigan-Flint in a professional and courteous manner, providing a positive experience throughout the University of Michigan-Flint.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to guest requests, complaints, and inquiries.
- Attend scheduled staff or other assigned meetings.
- Keep accurate records of completed tasks and situations that require communication to a professional staff member.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Ensure guest, customer and staff safety.
- Responsible for building security and cleanliness.
- Act in accordance with, and enforce, all University and department policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor and the CAE professional staff.
Required Qualifications
- Current or incoming UM-Flint student who has registered for classes
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
- Knowledge of University of Michigan-Flint and surrounding community
- Possess good organizational skills, initiative, attention to detail, and positive attitude
- Desire to assist others and provide excellent customer service as an individual and as part of a team
- Demonstrate professional etiquette in all interactions
- Able to make sound decisions and work independently at times
- Able to lift/move 50 lbs or more repeatedly
- Able to work a flexible schedule. Available shifts vary: days, nights, weekends
- Able to work for an entire semester; prefer commitment of at least two semesters.
Modes of Work
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
Additional Information
- Work Study students preferred, but Work Study is not required.
- Must be able to work at least 10-12 hours a week.
- Position requires repeated physical movement of self, furniture, and equipment.
Background Screening
The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
