About the role
The Event Manager will independently manage components on a variety of events and experiential campaigns. They will demonstrate leadership, strong project management and consultation skills when conducting business with clients, vendors, and Opus team members. They will be seen as a trusted partner of clients and exhibit critical thinking, multi-tasking, and problem-solving capabilities. They must be results-oriented, able to meet demanding deadlines and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manages components on multiple workstreams or programs from small to medium scale (at minimum a 500 – 3,000 person event).
- Drives seamless execution by ensuring stakeholders, internal teams, vendors, and additional contributors understand what is expected of them.
- Anticipates client needs, drives planning schedules, manages budgets, and understands Opus processes to deliver unique experiences.
- Meets regularly with project team to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Partners with financial manager to accurately manage budgets, obtain client approval, and maintain timely updates to prevent budget overruns and increase client expenditure awareness.
- Maintains independent working relationships and establishes excellent customer service with clients and vendors.
- Negotiates with vendors to achieve higher caliber service and/or cost savings on behalf of the client.
- Understands Opus best practices and overall agency operations.
- Participates in department meetings, trainings, initiatives, and committees.
- Able to prioritize and delegate to staff above and below this position.
- Maintains clear communication with manager and/or client regarding special problems or exceptions to policies and procedures.
- Trains and mentors junior members of the team.
- Assumes responsibility for the success of assigned components of an event or project, meeting client objectives and client and manager expectations.
- Utilizes creative problem-solving throughout the planning cycle, consistently looking for ways to deliver more effectively.
- Communicates effectively with internal team, clients, and vendors via phone and email.
Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of event management experience, preferably within the event industry.
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four-year institution preferred.
- Results-oriented, able to meet demanding deadlines and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
