Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex) - Healthcare Instructor

About the role

The Evening School Healthcare Instructor prepares students for entry‑level employment and further training in the healthcare field. Students participate in hands‑on skills training, certification preparation, and real‑world learning experiences aligned to industry standards. This role supports students who are balancing work and life responsibilities and requires strong relationship building, flexibility, and a commitment to helping students persist and graduate.

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition‑free public charter high school serving young people ages 17–20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. The program helps students earn a high school diploma while gaining career exposure, industry certifications, and postsecondary pathways. The Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex) is a new program designed for students who work during the day and need a flexible pathway to earn their diploma and build a career path.

Responsibilities

• Participate in new staff orientation and professional development prior to the start of the school year
• Collaborate with school leadership and colleagues to understand program structures, schedules, and student supports
• Engage in curriculum planning and unit preparation before instruction begins
• Prepare classroom systems, materials, and expectations for the start of the school year
• Plan and deliver hands‑on healthcare skills instruction in lab and classroom settings
• Prepare students for CPR, First Aid, HHA, CNA, and other relevant certifications
• Assess student mastery and provide frequent, actionable feedback
• Maintain lab safety, equipment, and instructional materials
• Coordinate guest speakers, site visits, and industry exposure opportunities
• Collaborate with the specialized services team to ensure student success, provide teacher input, attend IEP meetings, and ensure accommodations per IEPs and/or English language needs
• Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback, and communicate student progress to the greater community through PowerSchool
• Facilitate one section of independent study hall per day, providing a structured, supportive environment for academic tasks
• Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4–5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward graduation
• Support students enrolled in CNA, Phlebotomy, or related programs as needed
• Contribute to a collaborative startup culture and continuous improvement of the Evening School program
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Evening School Principal

Requirements

Experience working in the healthcare field is required.

Qualifications

• CNA certification (preferred)
• Experience training or supervising in a healthcare setting (preferred)
• CPR and First Aid instructor certification (preferred)
• Experience working with youth or alternative education settings (preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field (preferred)
