About the Role

St. Therese School is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Evening Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works independently, and supports the mission of Catholic education.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Principal, and the Director of Facilities the Evening Custodian is responsible for the daily cleaning and upkeep of the Main School Building, Learning Center, classrooms, gymnasium, and common areas after the school day has ended. This position ensures that the school is clean, sanitized, and ready for students and staff each morning.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building.
  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, including desks, tables, and high-touch surfaces of the Main School Building and Learning Center.
  • Vacuum classrooms and offices and remove all trash and recycling.
  • Clean and disinfect student and staff restrooms, replenish paper, soap products, and mop floors.
  • Sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpets, hallways, entrances, and common areas.
  • Clean and maintain the gymnasium after school activities.
  • Empty trash and recycling throughout both school buildings.
  • Dust, spot clean windows and glass doors, and maintain the overall appearance of the facilities.
  • Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
  • Report maintenance concerns or repairs that require attention.
  • Secure classrooms and common areas before leaving each evening.
  • Follow all safety procedures and proper use of custodial equipment and cleaning products.
  • On call 24/7 monitoring alarm center

Equipment

Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, power mower and hand tools.

Safety Requirements

Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties. Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks. Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
  • Ability to perform physical work, such as lifting, bending, climbing stairs, standing for extended periods, and including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with faculty, and staff.
  • NJ Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation
  • Must successfully complete all required diocesan background checks and Safe Environment requirements.

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday
  • 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • 25 hours per week
