Evening Janitor – Part Time
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning tasks based upon weekly schedules and defined procedures of specific required tasks.
- Maintain all assigned areas in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Ensure restrooms are sanitized, properly stocked, and orderly.
- Generate maintenance work requests in response to discovered needs.
- Maintain an adequate level of cleaning supplies and paper products through an inventory process and notify supervisor when supplies are required to be ordered.
- Provide important information to other Janitorial/Porter staff through established methods.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Ensure all interactions with guests are cordial and helpful.
- Minimize interference with guest enjoyment while performing assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in general cleaning, custodial, or event support roles. Experience in a museum, park, nature center, zoo, or similar environment is a plus.
- Familiarity with basic cleaning procedures and equipment. Experience with specialized equipment such as floor machines is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests, team members, and supervisors.
- Ability to read and follow written cleaning procedures, safety instructions, and product labels.
- Ability to work independently and solve problems as they arise.
- Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- A dedication to the museum’s educational mission.
Work Setting
Museum headquarters is in the lower level of the stunning new Edelman Fossil Park Museum. The headquarters suite features a reception area, private offices, a large open office area, three conference rooms, a kitchenette, team lounge, and outdoor patio, situated by a 4-acre lake. The Evening Janitor is based out of the Engineering Office immediately adjacent to headquarters.
This is a part-time position with G&A Museum Operations Mantua LLC, based at the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum, in Mantua Township, NJ.
This role primarily requires weekend evening work with some occasions of weekday day/evening work to support staff time off.
Tasks may be adjusted from time to time based on an evening event schedule.
The role may require work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods, and to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
