Overview of Cambridge Public Schools

The Opportunity
The Cambridge Public Schools seek a talented and energetic SEI/ELL Reading Interventionist Teacher to provide direct, targeted literacy interventions to English Learners. This position will be split between the Tobin Montessori and Darby Vassal Lane Upper School, reporting to the ELL Department. The SEI Reading Interventionist will work with SEI classroom teachers and share responsibilities for supporting the literacy development of English Learners in Grades K-8. They will also collaborate with SEI teachers in administering appropriate assessments and implementing intervention programs based on assessment results.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan leveled, targeted, direct literacy lessons that are appropriately scaffolded for English language learners.
- Modify literacy intervention materials and programs to fit the academic, linguistic, and literacy needs of ELLs.
- Plan and run RTI (Response to Intervention) meetings for the SEI programs at VLUS and CRLS.
- Partner with classroom teachers in the administration of appropriate assessments as required by the Cambridge Public Schools.
- Participate in the development and implementation of instructional programs based on assessment results and the WIDA ELL Standards.
- Work cooperatively with personnel from the ELL Department and the Special Education Department.
- Support the selection of appropriate culturally responsive literacy materials for ELL students.
- Attend and share professional development pertaining to best practices in literacy development for ELLs.
- Keep accurate records and communicate with parents on a regular basis throughout the year.
- Collaborate with the school-based literacy team and the school's family liaisons to plan activities that will engage and help families support their children's learning.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Coordinator of the ELL Programs Department.
Your Skill Set
- A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Reading and/or ESL
- A Massachusetts Educator Licenses in ESL/ELL and Reading are required
- Trained or willing to be trained in various literacy intervention programs such as Literacy Footprints and LLI
- Experience in the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Assessment System helpful
- Experience working with SLIFE students preferred
- Five or more years of experience working with diverse student populations in grades 6-12 in an urban, multicultural setting preferred
- Proficiency in English and fluency in a language other than English (Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Mandarin, Haitian Creole, Somali, or Arabic) preferred
