About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, performs various housekeeping duties in an assigned area of the Hospital to ensure a clean, fresh, safe, and esthetically pleasing environment. Follows a duty list for an assigned area and attends meetings to review completion checklists at the end of each shift.
Responsibilities
- Cleans rooms and areas where patient equipment (e.g., IV poles, blood pressure pumps, temperature pumps) is stored.
- Removes regular and infectious waste as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness of the compactor area.
- Relocates furniture, equipment, and boxes to designated locations as instructed.
- Assists floor finishers as directed by the Supervisor.
- Reports security issues, safety hazards, and incomplete work to the Supervisor promptly.
- Communicates all concerns to the Supervisor and records discharge rooms cleaned daily using checkout forms.
- Returns all carts, equipment, key pagers, and unused supplies to the storeroom in clean condition at the end of shifts.
- Follows work rules and uses chemicals and supplies as trained, adhering to manufacturer recommendations.
- Strips and makes patient room beds for dismissal cleaning daily.
- Dry and wet mops all floors daily with approved cleaning agents.
- Polishes stainless steel weekly and as needed.
- Performs cleanup of spills in assigned areas or as observed.
- Replaces in-room needle containers when necessary.
- Uses the Bed-Tracking system properly at all times.
- Applies the step cleaning method consistently.
- Dusts all horizontal and vertical surfaces daily with approved cleaning agents.
- Spot cleans walls as necessary.
- Damp wipes all patient room furniture daily using approved cleaning agents.
- Cleans all porcelain and metal fixtures in restrooms daily with approved cleaning agents.
- Cleans shower rooms and stalls daily.
- Replenishes paper and soap supplies in dispensers daily.
- Cleans mirrors and windows daily with approved cleaning agents.
- Performs duties daily following a checklist for assigned areas using proper chemicals, equipment, and techniques.
- Checks carts before leaving the Central Storeroom to ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available.
- Vacuums all carpeting daily where applicable.
- Performs buffing duties as assigned per duty list.
- Completes and submits all checklists 100% of the time.
- Meets written standards of cleanliness 100% of the time.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (GED must be secured within one year of employment).
- One year of experience in Environmental Services preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Adheres to Standards of Behavior as outlined in personnel policies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for maintaining security, confidentiality, and integrity of patient and organizational information.
- Understands and supports compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing ethical business practices in healthcare.
