About the role
The University of Salamanca, funded by the AgriEnvironment Excellence Unit, is offering a predoctoral student position to join the CIALE Institute and the Department of Botany and Plant Physiology as part of the European PROSPER project – Promoting Resilient Orphan Legumes for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security. The HORIZON-CL6—BIODIV-02-PROSPER project addresses challenges arising from climate change and limited crop diversification in Europe by investigating resilient and underutilized legumes to strengthen food security and promote more sustainable agricultural systems. The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team with extensive experience in plant physiology, crop improvement, and agrobiotechnology, working in a high-level scientific environment at the CIALE Institute.
Responsibilities
- Participate in research activities related to plant physiology, stress resilience, and legume improvement.
- Conduct experiments in the laboratory, greenhouse, and/or field.
- Analyze data, prepare reports, and contribute to scientific publications.
- Collaborate with European partners of the PROSPER consortium.
- Develop a doctoral thesis within the framework of the project.
Requirements
- Enrolled or pre-admitted in a Doctoral Program at the University of Salamanca (2025–2026 academic year).
- Bachelor’s or undergraduate degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent fields.
- Related Master’s degree (or currently pursuing one).
- Weighted average grade of Bachelor’s/Licenciatura ≥ 7.
- Not hold a doctoral degree.
- Completion of studies granting access to the doctoral program after March 1, 2023.
- Not have been a beneficiary of other predoctoral contracts regulated by RD 63/2006, RD 103/2019, or equivalent calls.
- Not be subject to prohibitions for beneficiaries of subsidies (Law 38/2003).
Pay
Annual salary between €19,026 and €25,564 (according to regulations).
Schedule
- Duration: Until thesis defense, with a maximum of 4 years.
- Possibility of extension: 12 additional months as a postdoctoral researcher after thesis defense.
- Teaching opportunity: Up to 60 hours/year, with a maximum of 180 hours during the contract.
