About the role

The Estimator-Project Manager position at HK Contractors, a CRH company, is responsible for creating accurate project budgets and communicating them to management. This role involves preparing detailed estimates, maintaining project files, and assisting the Estimating Manager in coordinating DOT, Federal Highway, and municipal work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares detailed estimates by completing takeoffs, using past cost history, and consulting with field personnel.
  • Maintains files of working documents as a backup for estimate figures, including current information on supplier prices.
  • Prepares detailed reports and information packets and communicates all aspects of the bid to field personnel.
  • Reviews design options and recommends the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  • Follows all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and the environment.
  • Reports any problems to the Estimating Manager, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Independently estimates large-sized projects within $1 million to $25 million dollars range.
  • Led estimator on projects of $25 million dollars or greater with a team.
  • Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience. Three to seven years of construction experience with DOT, Federal Highway, and city and state municipalities. Three to seven years of construction estimating experience. Three to seven years experience with construction management.
  • Knowledge/Skill Requirements: Experience with estimating software, B2W, spreadsheets, etc. Experience with Takeoff software. Demonstrated proficiency with estimating and bidding software. Experience with CADD files. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts. Skills needed include leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and organization. Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors, and internal and external customers.
  • General Requirements: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs.
