ESI’s Mechanical Estimator assists in coordinating, preparing, and presenting estimates for project proposals, including cost summaries, quantity takeoffs, and understanding project requirements. This role requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the construction industry, with a focus on process piping systems and support for multiple project teams.
Responsibilities
- Aiding in producing accurate estimates, including subcontractor solicitation, quantity takeoffs, pricing analysis, proposal comparisons, and estimate summary sheets.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting contract documents (RFP, specifications, etc.).
- Completing full quantity takeoffs and data entry of labor, equipment, and materials.
- Conducting initial analysis of drawings and specifications to establish project requirements.
- Compiling information from daily meetings and communicating it clearly to the project team.
- Supporting lead estimators in gathering information from local government and private entities (e.g., permits, hearings).
- Performing archive filing and historical cost data gathering.
- Participating in project review meetings and site investigations as needed.
- Assisting in coordination with the design team for constructability input and value engineering.
- Scheduling estimating team reviews.
- Utilizing bid solicitation software.
- Preparing special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Contributing to team efforts by exemplifying ESI’s "Dependable, Dedicated, Dynamic" estimating culture.
- Seeking training and mentorship in every task.
- Conducting initial analysis of drawings and specifications to ensure requirements are met.
- Assisting in prioritizing tasks to hit project milestones.
- Applying mathematical skills and data analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management and/or 1-4 years of industry/estimating experience.
- 3+ years of experience estimating HVAC systems, with working knowledge of industrial piping systems.
- Demonstrated leadership, integrity, perseverance, reliability, respect, and self-discipline.
- Ability to represent ESI as an ambassador to all parties.
- Proficiency in searching, navigating, and interpreting contract documents (plans, specifications, Geotech, RFIs, ASIs, CCDs, etc.).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Proficient and organized with Bluebeam PDFs (takeoffs, markups, modifications).
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Competent in reading and understanding schedules.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with peers, management, and vendors.
- Ability to comprehend, simplify, and convey information clearly.
- Ability to produce basic logistical plans with some direction.
- Skilled at problem-solving; resilient and determined to find solutions.
- Exhibits personal motivation, initiative, and potential for growth.
- Knowledge of construction fundamentals to assist in cost development.
