Estimator - Marine Construction

About the role

This position is accountable for the preparation of estimates, takeoffs, and gathering information required for project proposals. The Estimator works closely with the project team(s) to ensure success in the bid proposal and award process, supporting Orion’s guiding beliefs and core values centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, with Integrity as the foundation.

Responsibilities

• Act as a key member of the Project Management Team to ensure success in the bid estimation process for marine construction projects.
• Conduct site investigations of potential project locations accompanied by a job sponsor.
• Prepare listings of bid items for review by the Project Management Team.
• Perform quantity surveys to develop a basis for cost estimates and pricing.
• Contact material suppliers and subcontractors to solicit quotations on needed bid items.
• Collect all quotations and enter data into the project management information system.
• Organize estimates, quotations, notes, plans, and other pertinent data for final pre-bid review and lead discussions of individual bid items.
• Assist in the review and analysis of bid documents for project risk, cost, or company capability.
• Prepare all bid documents and arrange them in worksheet form.
• Assist in establishing proper sequencing of construction labor requirements and productivity.
• Supervise preparation of man-hours and unit production for various project items.
• Maintain and update vendor files for construction materials and subcontractors.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure quotes are received on time and comply with bid form and plan specifications.
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
• Responsible for personal safety and the safety of co-workers; authorized to stop work if unsafe conditions are observed.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies; report violations promptly.
• Perform related administrative and technical duties as assigned, including certification and safety training.
• Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and trade secret information.

Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) years estimating experience in marine construction or a related industry.
• Familiarization with Project Estimating, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Construction Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance.
• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Ability to travel to potential project areas and maintain a current passport.
• Strong computer skills and ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to identify critical issues, formulate action plans, and remain calm during emergencies.
• Capable of evacuating work areas in a timely manner during emergencies.

Pay

$130,000 - $170,000 salary range.
