Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy highway construction projects by analyzing plans, specifications, and other documentation.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements for each project by studying proposals, blueprints, and related documents.
  • Evaluate and forecast project costs, including equipment, labor, materials, and time, and provide recommendations to optimize resources and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and provide accurate cost estimates.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of up-to-date cost estimates, historical data, and cost inputs for future reference.
  • Review and assess cost estimates to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with quality assurance procedures.
  • Monitor and track changes in design, scope, or site conditions that could impact project costs and adjust estimates accordingly.
  • Participate in proposal presentations and client meetings to explain cost estimates and answer any questions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an estimator in the heavy highway construction industry.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and cost estimating, with a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to evaluate and analyze complex blueprints and technical documents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members, managers, and clients.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and other industry-standard tools.
  • A strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and attention to detail.
