About the role

All 5’s Construction is seeking an Estimator to join our Specialties team in Reno, NV. The Estimator is primarily responsible for coordinating all aspects of proposals, including the budget/estimate in adherence to contract documents, labor, logistics, and project schedule to ensure project success. This role reports to the Chief Estimator and may oversee Junior Estimators.

Responsibilities

  • Delegate and review all contract documents, including structural, architectural, civil, landscape, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical plans, along with specifications and soils reports.
  • Prepare quantity surveys to ensure a complete and qualified scope.
  • Ensure suppliers are contacted in a timely manner and review quotations for current pricing.
  • Evaluate equipment quotations from vendors.
  • Participate in meetings with the project team to review preliminary estimates and discuss production rates and formwork systems.
  • Lead all required inter-department meetings and hand-offs related to assigned projects.
  • Review and approve estimate labor productions, equipment productions, materials, and sub-contractor pricing with the Chief Estimator.
  • Finalize estimates in job-cost format for insertion into the project accounting system to track actual production rates.
  • Maintain and update the cost/production history database and specialties database within the estimating program system.
  • Build and maintain solid working relationships with clients, peers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Conduct initial plan reviews, participate in project kickoff meetings, and develop a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Review the Prime Contract in its entirety and ensure all requirements and obligations are addressed with project controls, documentation, and procedures.
  • Develop the project chart of accounts with cost codes (using standard cost codes).
  • Create and maintain the Master Project Schedule, adjusting for material deliveries, change orders, and other project milestones.
  • Inform the project team of all schedule changes.
  • Create and execute Purchase Orders and maintain a Purchase Order log according to standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing plan reviews of all document revisions, bulletins, and deltas.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of project documents.
  • Prepare the safety plan in coordination with the Field Safety Manager, lead by example in adhering to the safety plan, and implement safety procedures throughout the project.
  • Manage all costs, budgets, billings, and financials on the project, reporting costs to the VP of Operations (and in some cases, the client) monthly.
  • Manage the closeout of all subcontractor contracts according to standard procedures.
  • Supervise and develop direct reports on the preconstruction team while collaborating with all operation team members.
  • Stay apprised of new construction products and methods, attending trainings and industry-related events to bring innovation into the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3-7 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience.
  • High school diploma required; degree in Construction Management or a related field, or a combination of relevant construction experience and education.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace within time constraints while maintaining professional composure and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Exceptional skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Fluency in reading, quantifying, and analyzing construction drawings.
  • Exposure or experience with Software For Hardware or other related specialty programs.
  • Desire to teach and mentor Junior Estimators, Project Engineers, and field employees.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to embrace new technology and tools in the industry.
