Estimating Student

As an Estimating Student for Civil West in Long Beach, California, you will work alongside experienced estimators to analyze project opportunities, develop competitive cost estimates, and help shape successful project pursuits that strengthen the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

• Review and perform quantity survey assignments with the lead estimator
• Perform general sub‑trade solicitation duties
• Bid document control
• Perform bid day assignments
• Sub‑trade bid reviews and recapping
• Visit job sites periodically
• Use in‑house estimating software (BEST Estimating)
• Develop relationships with subcontractors
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Desire a career in construction project management, field supervision, or estimating
• Pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Architectural Drafting & Estimating Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• Experience with On‑Screen Takeoff, Microsoft Excel and Word, Revit, Acrobat, and other computer software
• Effective verbal and written communication with project personnel, suppliers, subcontractors, and owners
• Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications and perform quantity take‑offs
• Must be authorized to work in the United States (PCL does not sponsor employment visas)
• 18 years of age or older
• Available to work full‑time in Los Angeles, CA from May to August
• Employment contingent upon passing a third‑party substance‑abuse test

Schedule

Full‑time position in Long Beach, California (Los Angeles area) from May to August. Must be 18 years or older, authorized to work in the U.S., and able to pass a substance‑abuse test.
