Estimating Manager
Responsibilities
- Oversees the preparation of detailed deliverables and presents information from a knowledgeable standpoint
- Responsible for maintenance of company bid lists and evaluation of subcontractors and suppliers
- Represents Austin in meetings with owners and architects to discuss design and budget issues
- Ensures compliance with company policies as it relates to estimate reviews and other related items
- Detailed review of all documents including specifications for identification of onerous requirements
- Reviews RFPs and contracts to identify scope inclusions, contract terms, and risk
- Enhances relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, architects, etc.)
- Assumes overall responsibility for preparation of the cost estimate. Reviews all aspects of the completed estimate for accuracy and appropriateness. Makes recommendations with respect to fee, mark-ups, and specified language to be used in the proposal.
- Evaluates the ability of subcontractors and company personnel to perform each work segment
- Oversees the training and development of all estimators assigned to the department
- Compiles cost data for incorporation into estimating databases
Requirements
- Generally, requires 15+ years of estimating experience, including competitive bid and negotiated work as well as conceptual estimating
- BS/BA in engineering, construction science, architecture, or relevant discipline strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Complete knowledge in building designs, systems, and construction materials
- Extensive knowledge of alternative materials, means and methods to aid in the identification of cost savings/value engineering ideas when costs exceed owner's construction budget
- Knowledge and specific expertise with all construction materials, means, and methods
- Strong math and technology ability with an analytical mindset
- Proficient in relevant estimating and quantity take-off software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate
- Familiar with team-based delivery and exhibits ability to lead a group of individuals to a common result
