Our interns are assigned meaningful duties, which help advance the efforts of the company and give the students a broad introduction to the field of Civil Engineering.

Responsibilities

Quantity Takeoffs & Bid Preparation

  • Perform quantity takeoffs from plan sets for earthwork, concrete, drainage, and other civil work items.
  • Assist in organizing and assembling bid packages for heavy civil construction projects.
  • Review project specifications and drawings to identify scope of work.
  • Assist senior estimators with assembling bid documents.
  • Build familiarity with DOT standard specifications and pay item structures.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Solicit and log subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Maintain bid solicitation lists and track quote deadlines.
  • Compare vendor pricing and assist in scope leveling.

Cost Estimating Support

  • Shadow senior estimators during bid reviews and strategy meetings.
  • Research historical data and production rates to support estimate development.
  • Assist in analyzing production rates for equipment and labor crews.
  • Participate in pre-bid site visits and job walks.

Qualifications

  • Completion of one year in a Civil Engineering, General Engineering or Construction Management degree program
  • Excellent Computer and Communication skills
