Position Details

Job Title: eSports Program Instructor I
Location: Edwards Field House (Edwards, CO)
Employment Type: Part-Time, Seasonal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)
Schedule: Work schedules may vary based on program and event needs and typically include evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional tournament-based or special event hours.
Supervision Required: Works under the supervision of the Program Instructor II, Facility Supervisor, or Facility Coordinator
Supervision Exercised: None; leadership and direction may be provided to assistants and volunteers.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $18.49 - $23.11/hour DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in planning and facilitating esports programs, classes, and activities. Supports the development of lesson plans and program content, prepares materials and equipment, delivers instruction or guided gameplay, and monitors participant engagement and safety.

  • Assists in Instructing classes, programs, and activities. Helps plan, organize, and implement curriculum based upon overall program objectives and guidelines.
  • Oversees the safety, comfort, and progress of participants.
  • Develops rapport with participants and responds to questions or concerns.
  • Communicates with staff regarding facility, equipment, and supply needs.
  • Set up, take down, and clean-up after classes as necessary.
  • Addresses program specific risk management/safety issues.
  • Facilitates inclusion of special needs participants in programs.
  • Manages accidents and incidents according to procedures.
  • Acts as a mandatory reporter and complies with mandatory reporting guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Competencies and Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of: The theories, principles, and practices related to the specialized area of esports and gaming programming. Curriculum design and effective instructional and facilitation methods appropriate to participant age, ability, and skill level within the area of assignment.

  • Demonstrated competency in the specialized area of esports and/or gaming programming.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver instruction or facilitation to participants of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels.
  • Ability to manage participant behavior, respond to conflicts or disruptions, and address customer service concerns in a professional manner.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and unexpected situations.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and participants and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and constructive environment.

Requirements

Education and experience: - Must be 16 years of age or older; AND - Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. - Basic knowledge of console and/or computer use preferred. - Prior experience participating in or supporting video game tournaments preferred. - Familiarity with games offered in the eSports Lounge (e.g., Minecraft, Fortnite, Rocket League, EA Sports FC/FIFA, Madden, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and similar titles) preferred. Willingness and ability to learn new games is strongly preferred.

Certifications

May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
