As an ESOL Teacher, you will support the school's instructional program by identifying students with limited English proficiency, planning appropriate developmental programs, and delivering instruction aligned with state law, regulations, and CSUSA curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Evaluation
    • Identify students as Limited English Proficient (LEP) in accordance with state law, regulations, and CSUSA policy through evaluation of test data, observations, staff consultations, and registration forms.
    • Use standardized test instruments, informal diagnostic tasks, and observations to assess students' English proficiency levels.
  • Instructional Planning
    • Develop instructional programs to enhance oral and written communication skills.
    • Select appropriate instructional materials and media to achieve program goals.
    • Group students for instruction in cooperation with the principal, considering each student's English proficiency level.
    • Prepare for assigned classes and provide evidence of preparation upon request.
    • Participate in curriculum planning with other staff members during designated meetings.
    • Take necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, materials, and facilities for effective instruction.
  • Instruction
    • Meet with and instruct students according to scheduled plans.
    • Use instructional media and techniques to improve oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Regularly assess student progress in English proficiency.
    • Maximize the educational achievement of each student.
    • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by CSUSA policy and state regulations.
  • Student Management
    • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
    • Implement relevant policies and rules governing student conduct.
    • Develop and maintain reasonable classroom behavior rules in line with district policy.
    • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • School and Community Relations
    • Establish cooperative relations and communicate with parents/guardians as required by state law and CSUSA policy.
    • Cooperate professionally with administration and staff.
    • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with state, federal, and district policies.
    • Attend parent communication activities (e.g., Back-to-School Night, conferences) as directed by the principal.
    • Inform parents of ESOL program placement in accordance with state law and CSUSA procedures.
    • Provide progress reports to classroom teachers and parents as required.
    • Communicate with classroom teachers regarding student objectives and instructional materials.
    • Consult and train staff on the cultural backgrounds of LEP students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Valid teaching eligibility in ESOL.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
  • Previous experience in student instruction.

Work Environment

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual school conditions. The environment may be noisy during high student traffic.
