Qualifications
- Required: Valid Ohio P-3, 1-8, K-8, 4-9 (ELA), K-12, or 7-12 (ELA) license
- Desired: License above plus TESOL Endorsement or Master in TESOL
Position Description
Assists identified students to meet or exceed 21st century knowledge and skills, including state academic achievement standards.
Screens and identifies possible EL students for ESL services based on the home language survey.
Works with the building administrator to assess EL students annually on the OELPA (Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment).
Follow-up with the previous district on EL status for transferred students.
Provides reading and writing lessons in English to EL students aligned to district adopted curriculum and EL standards.
Sends parent notifications to parent about EL services.
Creates and plans lessons aligned to ELA standards in English to help EL students acquire English.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects to communicate these objectives to students.
Plans and delivers lessons that advance the learning of each individual student; show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Works closely with the ESL and World Languages Department to provide services to EL students in reading and writing.
Designs authentic learning experiences for students to learn core knowledge, 21st century skills and literacies, through, but not limited to, collaboration, problem-based learning, and integration of curriculum.
Works cooperatively with the Bilingual Education Staff and building staff to identify target students.
Guides and teaches students, whose native language is not English, in the acquisition of learning subjects and speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English.
Clocks and plans for learning based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
Aids in the planning for intervention and remediation in literacy for identified students who have not mastered the content standards and implement appropriately.
Develops and implements differentiated instructional strategies for each student's academic growth based on the OELPA/OELPS.
Proficient in using technology as an instructional and management tool.
Uses continuous, authentic and appropriate assessment and evaluation measures that are evidence-based and uses them to improve instruction and student learning and for feedback, including progress reports.
Be flexible, resourceful, innovative, and can effectively manage the design and execution of learning experiences, both formal and informal.
Provides learning opportunities that support the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of the students.
Models the teaching expectations that students are to accomplish.
Contributes to and participates in ongoing professional development, including working with colleagues in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) model.
Maintains and improves professional competence.
Uses evidence-based and best practices to inform instruction and to work with colleagues.
Works collaboratively to improve instruction and learning while sharing the responsibility for outcomes with school and community.
