About the role

Under limited supervision, you will review claim and policy information to determine the extent of the policy’s obligation to the insured based on the line of business.

  • Contact, interview, and obtain statements (recorded or in person) from insureds, claimants, witnesses, physicians, attorneys, police officers, and others to secure necessary claim information.
  • Depending on the line of business, inspect and appraise damage for property losses or arrange for such appraisal.
  • Evaluate facts from investigations to determine the extent of liability of the insured and the company’s obligation under the policy contract.
  • Prepare reports on investigations, settlements, denials of claims, and individual evaluations of involved parties.
  • Set reserves within authority limits and recommend reserve changes to the Team Leader.
  • Review progress and status of claims with the Team Leader, discussing problems and suggested remedial actions.
  • Prepare and submit unusual or potentially undesirable exposures to the Team Leader.
  • Assist the Team Leader in developing methods and improvements for handling claims.
  • Settle claims promptly and equitably, managing litigated files by directing defense counsel to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Obtain releases, proofs of loss, or compensation agreements and issue company drafts for claim payments.
  • Inform claimants, insureds/customers, or attorneys of claim denials when applicable.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of claims handling experience in Auto & General Liability.
  • Experience within a TPA environment strongly preferred.
  • Required to obtain specific state licenses.
  • Knowledge of coverages and a strong understanding of applicable legal principles and litigation management.
  • Knowledge of auto liability cost containment programs and proven account management skills.
  • Strong litigation management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of an organization, both internal and external.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide consistent superior service to customers.
