ES Network Administrator II (On-site)

About the role

Installs and maintains a large, enterprise LAN / WAN / Wireless environment that provides voice, data and video services. Designs network architecture, implements network policy, and analyzes performance. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether criminal history or continuous connections to foreign adversaries might prevent maintaining the security or integrity of the University infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Designs, installs, supports and maintains complex LAN/WAN and/or Wireless networks and network systems.
• Monitors and analyzes performance, utilization and availability of LAN/WAN and/or Wireless networks.
• Identifies, diagnoses and resolves technical problems related to network failure/integrity and in support of efficient network operations.
• Develops, recommends and implements network standards and policies; monitors compliance with established standards.
• Evaluates and recommends networking product and software upgrades and improvements.
• Compiles performance metrics and provides reports to management.
• Consults with and advises Network Operations staff and may lead technical support staff for assigned projects.
• Participates in on-call rotation and "Ride Out Team" rotation.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline; or basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.
• Knowledge obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or equivalent in-depth specialized training program.
• Minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
• Department is willing to accept experience in lieu of education.

Work Environment

• Typically performed in an interior work environment but may involve moderate exposure to unpleasant elements (e.g., extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals).
• May involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.
• Moderate physical activity required, including handling objects up to 25 pounds or standing/walking for long periods (more than 4 hours per day).
• Exposure to physical risks requiring basic safety precautions (e.g., climbing ladders, working at heights up to 20 feet or more).
