About the role
As a Field Engineer – Electrical Testing (NETA Level III/IV), you will perform acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance testing on electrical power systems and equipment up to 500 kV, conduct power system studies, test and calibrate protective relays, and troubleshoot failures under time-critical conditions. You will also mentor junior technicians, lead multi-discipline project teams, and ensure compliance with NETA, NFPA 70E, and OSHA standards.
This role requires up to 75% regional and national travel.
Responsibilities
- Perform acceptance, commissioning, and maintenance testing on electrical power systems and equipment up to 500 kV
- Conduct power system studies including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and power quality analysis
- Test and calibrate protective relays (electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based)
- Perform insulation resistance, power factor, and contact resistance testing on transformers, switchgear, cables, and circuit breakers
- Interpret and analyze test results; author comprehensive engineering reports with findings and recommendations
- Troubleshoot complex electrical system failures under time-critical conditions
- Mentor and train Level I/II technicians in the field
- Serve as technical lead on multi-discipline project teams
- Maintain compliance with NETA MTS/ATS standards, NFPA 70E, and OSHA safety requirements
Requirements
- NETA Level III or Level IV Certification (current and in good standing)
- 7+ years of hands-on electrical testing experience in medium/high voltage environments
- Expert knowledge of NETA MTS and ATS standards
- Proficiency with test equipment: Doble, Megger, Omicron, Dranetz, SKF, and equivalent
- Strong understanding of protective relay schemes and coordination
- Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and P&IDs
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Willingness to travel regionally (up to 75%)
Preferred Qualifications
- NETA Level IV Certification
- NICET Certification
- Experience with SF6 breaker maintenance
- Power systems engineering or related degree
- Prior leadership/supervisory experience on testing projects
- Experience in data center, utility, or industrial critical power environments
