About the role
The Emergency Medical Technician-Advanced (EMTTA) functions as a technician within established competencies and scope of practice, supply aide, and unit clerk to support in the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department (ED). Incumbent works under the direct supervision of an Emergency Department physician, ED medical director, and EMTTP paramedic, in collaboration with a registered nurse.
Responsibilities
- Performs various technical procedures within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health in the ED.
- Works as a patient care provider in a team-based model with an ED physician, performing various technical procedures and skills within established competencies and scope of practice (Emergency Medical Trauma Technician-Acute Care Technician Practice Guidelines) as approved by Renown Health in the ED.
- Stocks the ED with required supplies, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safe, effective patient care.
- Functions as a unit clerk, performing clerical duties, acting as unit receptionist, coordinating unit/patient schedules and activities, efficiently using the computer and telephone, and maintaining an orderly and efficient nurse’s station.
- Provides directions and information to guests, visitors, families, and patients arriving at, or calling the ED, and makes appropriate referrals.
- Provides patient care utilizing technical skills within their competencies and Renown Health scope of practice, communicating effectively with supervisors, other ED staff, physicians, and ancillary staff.
- Ensures that equipment is working properly before ED procedures, cares for equipment after procedure, and reports equipment that is not working properly or is broken.
- Transports telemetry patients and receives reports from field emergency medical personnel.
- Provides patient care which includes physical assessment with documentation, BLS, ACLS, performs phlebotomy, medication administration, inserts peripheral IV access, and any skills within established competencies and scope of practice (Emergency Medical Trauma Technician-Acute Care Technician Practice Guidelines) as approved by Renown Health.
- Requires completion certificate of the Renown EKG interpretation class. Applicants with EKG experience may substitute a passing Renown EKG interpretation class final exam grade for the interpretation class. Requires the ability to perform a 12 lead EKG.
- Maintains competencies based on scope of practice as verified through completion of Professional Development Day in the Emergency Department.
- Rotates work areas and duties as needed and/or directed.
- Performs technical duties within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health that facilitate safe and effective patient care in the ED.
- Interacts and communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary health care team and with patients and families of differing socioeconomic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
- Takes direction from professional staff.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.
Requirements
- Current State of Nevada and National Registry of EMT-Advanced certification through the National Registry of EMT (NREMT) is required upon hire. NREMT certification must be in ACTIVE status within 90 days of hire.
- May hold a Paramedic EMT certification for up to 60 days while awaiting movement into an open Paramedic position.
- Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) standards required at time of hire. Obtain and maintain ACLS certification by the AHA within 3 months of hire.
- Possesses, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
