About the role

Our Emergency Department cares for over 45,000 patients each year in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. With 42 treatment rooms—including 5 Mental Health Secured Unit rooms and 3 Trauma Bays—you’ll gain experience with a wide variety of patient needs. We are a Primary Stroke Center, offer a 24-hour Cardiac Cath Lab with EMS direct-to-Cath capabilities, and are a designated Level III Trauma Center.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with patient assessments, exams, and treatments
  • Perform clinical tasks such as:
    • Drawing blood & collecting specimens
    • Performing EKGs
    • Applying splints or immobilizers
    • Taking vital signs (adult and pediatric)
    • Inserting NG tubes, urethral catheters
    • Starting and discontinuing IVs (as applicable)
  • Prepare and assist with procedures including suturing, casting, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, and more
  • Recognize abnormal vitals or dysrhythmias and alert the RN/Provider immediately
  • Provide patient and family support with professionalism and empathy
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; clean and prepare rooms between patients
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and hospital standards

Education/Experience Required

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required
  • BCLS Certification is required
  • Previous experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting is a strong plus
  • One of the following is required at time of hire:
    • A Basic EMT certification
    • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant, nursing, or MD program
    • One year of Emergency Room Technical experience
  • An EMT license is preferred

Certifications/Licensures Required

  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • A Basic EMT (B-EMT) certification
    • Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant program
    • Completion of a formal nursing education program
    • Completion of a formal medical doctor education program
  • OR
    • One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience (Must complete one of the above certifications/programs within 12 months of hire)

Additional Requirements

  • EMT license preferred
  • Successful completion of a 180-day orientation period is required
