JOB DESCRIPTION Title Equipment Technician - Manufacturing jOB # JD-014-LB Date September 23, 2024 FLSA Non-Exempt LOCATION Lake Bluff, IL REPORTS TO Facilities Engineer POSITION SUMMARY Performs troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance on all production machines and related support equipment. Conducts routine facilities maintenance. RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains and repairs production machinery and equipment as required to maximize run time. Perform preventive maintenance duties following a standard preventive maintenance schedule to keep equipment functioning at maximum efficiency and reliability. Records all actions taken in equipment maintenance log promptly and accurately so that complete records are available for each piece of equipment. Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance procedures. Run errands for parts or supplies as needed (1 to 3 times per month). Assist Facilities Engineer in coordinating subcontractor work. Maintain a clean, orderly stocked work area and equipment. Provide off-hour coverage/support on a call basis. Travel to and provide support at McHenry, IL facility upon request. Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent Knowledge of machinery repair, troubleshooting and building maintenance. 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical aptitude, math skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail. Proficient with basic hand tools, shop equipment, electrical multimeters, and amp probes. SKILLS Strong background in machine controls systems, relay logic, PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and motor drives; programming experience is a plus. Ability to use and read measuring tools (rulers, tape measures, digital calipers, micrometers, infrared thermometers). Must be able to solve practical problems in varied situations with limited standardization. Ability to make recommendations regarding spare parts, lock-out/tag-out, guarding, and operator involvement for machine integrity, consulting managers as needed. Effective collaboration and communication skills, both orally and in writing, with maintenance staff and cross-functional teams. Competent knowledge of equipment wiring and basic building wiring, Electrical systems up to 480 volts 3-phase. Hydraulics, pneumatics, and light plumbing work. Ability to read and understand maintenance schedules, schematics, and manuals, maintain tidy maintenance logs. Computer skills (MS Office) including the ability to use the internet to research and source parts. Physically capable of climbing ladders, bending, and accessing all areas of machinery and equipment. Ability to design and fabricate parts, brackets, assemblies, and tooling using standard shop equipment, welding skills are a plus. Experience operating equipment such as forklifts and scissors lifts at heights up to 30 feet. Able to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license.
