About the role

The Equipment Processing Technician - Scope Washer position at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and safety monitoring of various medical equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Responsibilities

• Communicates with interdisciplinary health care team to improve patient safety and the safe transition of care.
• Sorts, inspects, and decontaminates/sterilizes PPE, medications, medical and pharmaceutical equipment, and other physical spaces.
• Handles sterilants and cleaning supplies according to manufacturer instructions and institutional policies.
• Ensures timely turnaround for equipment requiring decontamination/sterilization, including rounding on units to collect and return equipment needing decontamination/sterilization.
• Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment and follows all department equipment, chemical, and supply usage guidelines.
• Performs visual inspections and quality control checks to ensure equipment meets institutional standards for effective sterilization.
• Maintains patient and family privacy.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education)
• Equipment Processing program preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Independently performs job duties with demonstrated skills and competencies.
• Speaks, reads, and writes English proficiently, with proficiency in positive language principles.
• Utilizes basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office and electronic instrument tracking systems.
• Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment and follows safety protocols.
• Completes department and institution competencies within required timelines.
