Equipment Operator-Truck

About the Role

Safe and efficient operation of mine equipment at Fort Knox, a cold weather heap leach facility located approximately 26 miles from Fairbanks. Beginning equipment operators will operate haulage units to transport and dump ore, waste rock, and other materials, progressing to finish work. Fort Knox has produced over 8.5 million ounces since 1996 and supports local communities through contributions exceeding US$25 million to the Alaska Mental Health Trust since 2001.

Responsibilities

• Operate all equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and supervisor instructions to achieve production goals.
• Visually inspect high walls, haul roads, and dumps for ground stability and hazards; report problems.
• Promote safety by communicating with haul road traffic about equipment location and hazards.
• Perform pre-operation, walk-around, and pre-shift inspections; monitor instrument gauges frequently.
• Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Maintain radio contact with co-workers and supervisors for operating and safety instructions.
• Record all load types, locations hauled, sources, and destinations.
• Adhere to punctuality and regular attendance requirements.
• Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, including safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
• Work safely, identify potential safety hazards, and collaborate with management to correct them.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
• General background in heavy equipment operation preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work within the physical demands outlined in job sheets.
• Ability to work in a team environment and without constant supervision.
• Must be able to work shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
• Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
