About the Role

Operators perform a variety of physical tasks, including operating the roller, skid steer, paver, and milling machines, as well as other heavy equipment and machinery for applying asphalt products as defined by each job/project.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
  • Operate the roller and other heavy equipment for paving projects/jobs.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and machinery.
  • Coordinate and work with contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to complete jobs.
  • Serve as front-line company representative, providing excellent service to customers and the public.
  • Work on the ground as needed.
  • Work quickly, productively, and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the Foreman, Superintendent, and/or Production Manager.
  • Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding daily production schedule and activities.
  • Advocate for safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in job-site and safety meetings and all company-related training.
  • Work in conjunction with Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure the job-site is safe and traffic is controlled prior to commencing work.
  • Maintain strong communication and constant contact with other equipment operators, truck drivers, and general laborers.
  • Invoke Sunland's Core Values.
  • Report problems and malfunctioning equipment/machinery to supervisor and/or shop personnel.
  • Set up and tear down equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a clean job site; pick up all tools and equipment and secure the job site each day.
  • Use equipment and/or an assortment of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows.
  • Perform all other general laborer work as needed, including any assigned duties.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience is preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English is preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel to any and all job sites without exception (including staying away from home if necessary).

Qualifications for Drivers

  • Must meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements under 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2), including the ability to read and speak English, understand highway signs, respond to official inquiries, and make required entries on reports and records.
  • All 10K-CMV and CDL drivers will be required to complete and pass an English proficiency assessment to ensure compliance with federal mandates.
