About the role

The Equipment Operator plays a crucial role in National Trade Supply's fulfillment center, ensuring smooth and efficient movement of products through the warehouse.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate forklifts, reach trucks, turrets/cherry picker, and other powered industrial trucks (PITs) to manage inventory and fulfill orders.
  • Put away received goods into assigned racking locations accurately and efficiently, verifying correct location assignment before storing.
  • Replenish pick locations consistently to ensure order pickers have product available, proactively monitoring low locations.
  • Pull pallets for large or bulk outbound orders as directed, staging product in the correct outbound areas.
  • Transport inbound and outbound freight between dock doors, staging areas, racking, and pick locations efficiently and without damage.
  • Operate equipment at safe speeds appropriate to the environment, load type, and traffic conditions at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Inventory & WMS Accuracy

  • Scan and record all product movements accurately in the warehouse management system (WMS) at the time of the move.
  • Verify item identity, quantity, and location accuracy when moving, storing, or replenishing inventory.
  • Identify and immediately report inventory discrepancies, mislabeled product, damaged goods, or location errors to the Warehouse Supervisor.
  • Support cycle counts and physical inventory activities as directed, ensuring accurate location-level counts.
  • Maintain awareness of racking capacity, weight limits, and storage constraints to prevent overloading or unsafe storage conditions.

Equipment Inspection & Maintenance

  • Conduct a thorough pre-shift equipment inspection on every assigned PIT before operating, including checks on forks, hydraulics, tires, battery or fuel level, lights, horn, and safety devices.
  • Complete and submit the daily equipment inspection checklist accurately; do not operate equipment that fails inspection.
  • Report any equipment deficiencies, damage, or maintenance needs to the Warehouse Supervisor immediately and tag the equipment out of service if it presents a safety concern.
  • Charge, change, or refuel equipment batteries or fuel supply in accordance with established procedures.
  • Keep assigned equipment clean and free of debris; report any damage sustained during operation immediately.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Adhere to all warehouse safety policies, PIT operating procedures, and OSHA standards at all times.
  • Operate PITs only within the scope of current certification; never operate equipment for which you are not certified.
  • Yield to pedestrians at all times; maintain required speed limits, sound the horn at blind intersections, and follow all floor markings and traffic patterns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area, keeping aisles clear and staging areas properly organized in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Report any safety hazards, near-misses, or injuries to the Warehouse Supervisor immediately.
  • Support other warehouse functions — including inbound, outbound, and inventory — as needed during peak periods or cross-training rotations.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating forklifts, reach trucks, or other powered industrial trucks in a warehouse or fulfillment environment.
  • Valid PIT certification required; must maintain certification as a condition of employment in this role.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory flow, racking systems, and WMS fundamentals.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely at heights and in high-racking environments.
  • Strong spatial awareness and attention to detail — accuracy in product placement and inventory scanning is essential.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, location labels, and WMS direction.
  • Able to stand, walk, sit, and operate equipment for a full shift.
  • Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment.
  • Reliable attendance is non-negotiable — the operation depends on this role being filled every shift.

  • Strong inventory management and accuracy skills.
  • Excellent safety practices and adherence to OSHA standards.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean, organized work environment.
