About the role

The City of Huntsville’s Sanitation Department seeks qualified applicants for the Equipment Operator III position. This role involves operating various types of heavy equipment to collect and transport solid waste.

Responsibilities

• Operates a knuckle boom loader for collecting large amounts of solid waste.
• Collects limbs, logs, wood, building materials, and other debris.
• Transports collected debris to landfills.
• Loads other vehicles as needed.
• Serves as a lead worker in some situations.
• Operates an automated refuse collection truck using an automated collection arm and standardized cart system.
• Operates a rear loader with a two-person crew for trash collection.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Significant experience in operating heavy equipment and trucks, including knuckle booms, automated refuse trucks, and rear loaders.
• A valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A, is required.
