About the role
This is a full-time position with benefits. The incumbent operates a variety of heavy and light equipment as a member of a crew specializing in asphalt laying, grading operations, drainage construction/maintenance, or other public-works activities involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads and public properties. The position may be included in an off-hours on-call response service.
Responsibilities
- Asphalt Paving Operations
- Serve as a senior member of an asphalt paving crew.
- Operate vehicles and equipment including asphalt pavement rollers, paving machine screws, single and tandem axle dump trucks, skid steer, and power broom.
- Participate in asphalt paving operations to ensure work is completed according to approved standards and guidelines.
- Flag traffic and install/maintain work-zone traffic-control devices.
- Use hand tools such as shovels and asphalt lutes.
- Patch roadways and maintain assigned equipment and tools.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Grading and Maintenance Operations
- Operate heavy and light equipment including hay blower, hydroseeder, rollers, mowers, tractors with various implements, rubber-tire backhoe, rubber-tire loader, single axle dump truck, vactron tandem axle dump truck, skid steer, and power broom.
- Perform grading construction.
- Install and maintain work-zone traffic-control devices and flag traffic.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, chain saws, cutoff saws, concrete saws, and bush axe.
- Install drain pipes and culverts.
- Maintain assigned equipment and tools.
- Assist in the manufacture, installation, and maintenance of road signs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
- Possession of a valid Class B CDL driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia within 9 months from the date of hire or promotion.
- Possession of GDOT-approved traffic flagging certification within 9 months from the date of hire or promotion.
Pay
Starting Salary – $45,662.38
