About the role
The City of Kodiak is seeking a full-time Equipment Operator I, II, or III in the Public Works Department. This position oversees and participates in maintenance, repair, and construction work across various public facilities including streets, sewers, public buildings, and related infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Leads and oversees a team of staff responsible for completing Public Works activities and operations.
- Operates and maintains maintenance and construction tools and heavy equipment.
- Performs a variety of technical tasks relevant to assigned areas of responsibility.
- Provides repair and maintenance services for public facilities in a safe and efficient manner.
- Makes independent, sound judgments in projects affecting public health and safety.
- Ensures all work is performed in a manner that reflects positively on the City and the Department.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and five to seven years of progressively responsible maintenance, utility, or trades experience, including three years of operating a broad range of heavy equipment at journey level.
- Valid Alaska drivers license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Valid Alaska commercial drivers license (CDL) or ability to obtain a CDL within six months of hire.
Qualifications
- Must have completed a high school diploma or GED.

- Must possess a valid Alaska drivers license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
