Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of construction and maintenance activities and duties in the completion of the services and operations of the Street Division of the Public Works Department.
- Work with department crews as assigned by supervisory personnel.
- Operate light construction equipment such as the street sweeper, water truck, backhoe, front end loader, various mowing equipment and other construction equipment in support of a variety of maintenance and construction operations.
- Operate various equipment in the grading of streets, pouring of concrete, spreading of asphalt and other street maintenance tasks; trim trees and haul brush to the convenience station; operate various equipment to clean ditches.
- Transport and deliver equipment and supplies to/from construction sites; perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and vehicles including cleaning, lubricating and adjusting.
- Maintain records and logs of all work performed; perform the duties of an equipment operator when required.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
Requirements
- Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of equipment operation experience.
- One (1) year of asphalt and concrete experience.
Licenses And Certificates
- Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License Class "CDL-B" and good driving record as defined by City policy.
- State of Texas Driver’s License Class "CDL-A" preferred.

Physical And Mental Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk and hear; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists.
- The employee is frequently required to lift up to 80 pounds unaided.
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
- The employee works in an outdoor environment, subject to high noise level and exposure to extreme weather and/or environmental conditions.
