Job Purpose
Carefully move packages and material around our facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely unload materials and merchandise from incoming trailers and load them to assigned outbound trailers.
- Performs required administrative tasks, for inbound unloading and outbound loading.
- Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
- Inspect forklift to determine the need for repairs and note any defects on pre shift inspection form.
- Help maintain a safe and orderly environment in the facilities.
- Ensure freight is counted and loaded in the right DC trailer.
- Secure freight for transit.
- Being able to operate air compressor for airbag usage.
- Responsible for the movement and spotting of trailers to facilitate the needs of the warehouse in sorting and processing material for shipment.
- Communicate with the Inbound and Outbound Lead's on trailer move prioritization.
- Documents and performs trailer moves on both the Inbound and Outbound operations.
- Performs yard checks throughout the day for Inbound and Outbound.
- Responsible for insuring seals are on applicable trailers.
- Tracks trailer inspections.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the grounds.
- Assist customer's carriers with instruction and direction while on the yard.
- Verifies and/or reports damages.
- Must function and interact daily with facility personnel and comply with facility safety requirements.
- Comply with company policies and legal guidelines.
- Other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- One to two years of forklift operator related experience or equivalent.
- Minimum 1-year hostler related experience.
- Familiarity with shipping practices and handling methods.
- Sit-down propane forklift experience is a plus.
- Operate yard truck in a safe manner.
- Drive and operate a vehicle under 15 mph in and around facility.
- Safe truck and trailer operating skills are required.
- Experience with backing 53-foot trailers.
- A current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred; however, verifiable experience will be considered.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Ability to speak, read and write the English proficiently.
Working Conditions
- Ability to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear (for extended periods of time).
- Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles and occasionally work at height.
- Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance and must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 - 75 pounds.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions year-round.
- Occasionally exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather).
- Continually loud noise.
- Working in an open-air cross dock.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment.
Schedule
1st Shift, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm or until; Tuesday - Saturday – 30% Forklift Operator – 70% Yard Hostler
