Equipment Operator - Heavy (Wastewater)

Salary Range: $19.91-$25.38

About the Role

Performs tasks of more than average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of assigned equipment. The employee will perform semi-skilled work in maintenance of the wastewater collection system and serve as a lead in the operation of the vactor truck and/or tanker truck. Tasks, at times, are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful. Under general supervision, employees are required to exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained.

The employee will be required periodically to assist the CCTV crew in cleaning sewer main lines in preparation for inspections; also the employee will be required to assist on sewer backups and wastewater overflows. The employee may be required to work at night and work in adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain assigned equipment, including vactor truck and tanker truck
• Perform semi-skilled work in maintenance of the wastewater collection system
• Lead operations involving the vactor truck and/or tanker truck
• Assist CCTV crew in cleaning sewer main lines for inspections
• Respond to sewer backups and wastewater overflows
• Work at night and in adverse weather conditions as required

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Two (2) years of experience in the operation of assigned equipment
• Florida Commercial Driver's License Class B required prior to employment
• Tanker endorsement permit required prior to employment
• Pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator
• Obtain GOAA Secure Area Access I.D. badge within ninety (90) days of hire

Qualifications

• Experience with High Velocity Cleaner with Sewer Vacuum Trailer and CCTV truck preferred
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
• Direct experience may substitute for education as follows:
  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

Equipment Operated

Complex, large equipment that normally requires formal and/or extensive training averaging three (3) months. Equipment is normally transported or operated on public roadways, sometimes requiring a small crew. The consequence of errors can be major in terms of cost or repairs and damage to both public and private property and equipment. There is a chance of major injury to other employees and citizens.
