Duties And Responsibilities
- Skilled and technical work in the construction, installation, and repair of traffic signal systems, highway lighting, and other transportation related systems.
- Drives construction equipment to and from job sites, loads and unloads equipment from trucks and/or trailers.
- Inspects equipment, performs preventive maintenance, and reports needed repairs.
- Safely and efficiently operates all equipment including but not limited to; aerial lift/bucket trucks, trenchers, derrick/digger trucks, cranes, backhoes, trackhoes, air compressors, and concrete saws.
- Makes operating adjustments and minor repairs to equipment such as changing buckets and teeth and tightening loose bolts and fittings.
- Assist with supervision and training of subordinate employees.
- Have their own hand tools (Complete list).
- Follow requirements for utility locates and permits.
- Fill out and turn in required personal and project paperwork.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
- Communicate with customers and other contractors.
- Provide their own transportation to and from work and/or be responsible for company assigned vehicle if provided and typically report to work at the job site.
- Wear steel toe work boots when working on a construction site.
- Wear Safety Vest and Hard Hat when on a job site.
- Use proper PPE as required.
Education, Experience, Skills And Abilities
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum eight years combined experience as a Groundsman / Laborer, Maintenance Technician I or Construction Technician I, and Equipment Operator I.
- Some experience may be substituted with equivalent related construction or electrical experience.
- Ability to operate gas torches (cutting and brazing).
- Must be proficient with basic hand tools and power tools.
- Must be proficient at traffic signal wiring.
- Must be familiar with MUTCD, NEC, CDOT, Local, Customer, and Project specific standards and specifications.
- Must be able to read plans and schematic diagrams.
- Must be able to read survey stakes, elevations, and grades.
- Must be familiar with basic communications systems, radio, fiber, hard wire, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair simple problems.
- Ability to efficiently supervise others, analyze and solve work problems, make decisions.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work, often under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to follow and transmit clear written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, And Training
- Must possess and maintain valid Texas commercial driver’s license (CDL class A).
- Must be insurable.
- Hazard Communications/MSDS Blood Borne Pathogens, Hantavirus, Respiratory Protection WL Bucket Truck/Aerial Lift, and Fall Protection.
- WL Trencher, Excavation, and Utility Damage Prevention.
- WL Crane and Rigging/Material Handling CDOT Flagger Certification IMSA Work Zone Safety certification or equivalent IMSA Traffic Signal Level I Certification.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to work at heights over 15 feet.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work nights.
Pay And Benefits
- This is a “Full Time” hourly position with the opportunity to advance.
- Pay range is between $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on previous experience.
