About the role

This position will cover parts of Southern Aroostook County as well as our Chester location.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including excavators, bulldozers, compactors, front end loaders, delimbers, skidders, skid steers, dump trucks (with licensure), and other machinery used in construction and forestry operations.
  • Ensure efficient production flow and proper handling of logs and lumber.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Maintain personal safety and watch out for the safety of others.
  • Comply with all OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Communicate with team members and customers in a positive and collaborative manner.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and advise the Job Foreman of any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Participate in routine maintenance tasks.
  • Cross-train in other positions as deemed appropriate by the site foreman.
  • Work efficiently as a team member and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current valid Class B Driver’s License (Class A is a plus, but not required).
  • Ability to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.
  • Knowledge of mechanical functioning of various equipment components and ability to make repairs as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in group situations.
  • Proper use of body mechanics to perform job duties.
  • Compliance with all company safety-related rules and regulations.
  • Ability to perform Lockout/Tagout as required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Remain seated for prolonged periods of time.
  • Demonstrate visual and auditory acuity to safely operate equipment.
  • Climb in and out of machinery.

Work Environment

  • Time split between outdoor conditions and the operator’s cab, which is normally climate controlled.
  • Exposure to slippery surfaces such as icy and muddy conditions.
  • Noise level is loud but generally below 85 decibels.
  • Must wear company-furnished PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety vest.
  • Inclement weather conditions may be encountered.
