Equipment Operator

About the role

The Equipment Operator will work as part of a team to ensure the well-being of all internal and external stakeholders while performing tasks related to the operation and preservation of specialized equipment. This role requires adherence to procedural handbooks, safety manuals, and operational plans, as well as compliance with government legislation related to labor, health, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Abide by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety manuals, and management direction to ensure work is performed according to defined specifications and regulations.
• Ensure compliance with all government legislation related to labor, health, safety, regulations, and policies.
• Preserve the Company’s reputation through professional and cooperative interactions with external stakeholders, including the airport authority, security personnel, and the public.
• Perform daily equipment inspections utilizing appropriate checklists and maintain records of light maintenance tasks; report any repair requirements immediately.
• Regularly inspect, maintain, and monitor equipment to ensure optimum efficiency; report issues to the on-duty lead or manager.
• Distribute daily workload to team members and ensure operations are properly staffed and personnel are trained.
• Knowledgeable of industrial safety practices, industrial hygiene, and non-hazardous waste treatment, storage, and reprocessing operations.
• Participate in site evaluations and prepare inclusive quotes, including scopes of work, price estimates, and contingencies.
• Make recommendations for improvement in workflow and project management.
• Work with governmental and regulatory agencies and maintain community relations.
• Perform sample testing, lab work, and execute chemical treatment to meet discharge limitations.
• Load and unload bulk and containerized materials using light equipment.
• Operate chemical process equipment, filter presses, and filtration systems.
• Perform daily inspections of the facility and storage tanks; process inbound and outbound paperwork, including customer manifests.
• Operate equipment to empty oil drums and transfer solids and fluids to storage tanks; manage solids and chemical-treated fluids in the storage facility.
• Perform general housekeeping, including cleaning tanks and maintaining equipment and site management.
• Collect fluid from designated customer areas for reprocessing.
• Participate in all required safety meetings and conduct business activities in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
• Ensure employees work productively and cost-effectively to complete assigned tasks in the best interest of company profitability.
• Adapt to changing conditions (customer requirements, time schedules, weather) to complete assignments to customer satisfaction.
• Provide service that meets or exceeds customer expectations regarding the entire customer experience.
• Complete all associated paperwork and log books accurately.
• Work cooperatively with all team members and external stakeholders.
• Use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for specific tasks.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free workplace at all times.
• Perform ad-hoc assignments as requested by the on-duty lead or manager, including general labor duties.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of all classroom and on-the-job training.
• Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Ability to write simple correspondence and present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with technical aptitude.
• Ability to work under pressure, exercise independent judgment, and select effective courses of action while controlling resources and expenditures.
• Ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle in inclement weather.
• Basic knowledge of aircraft and their performance.
• General mechanical competence and ability to use hand tools effectively.
• Driving record that meets Company insurance standards.
• Ability to maintain a positive, good-natured attitude and remain calm under pressure.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license or CDL Class B driver’s license.
• Ability to pass pre-employment background screenings and maintain Transportation Security Clearance and pre-employment drug screen.

Work Environment

• Exposure to prevailing weather conditions.

• Confined spaces for extended periods.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
• Flexibility required for shifts that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Thursday - Friday: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Saturday - Sunday: 11:00 PM - 11:00 AM

Multiple employees fulfill job requirements in a team environment. Positions may be full-time or part-time, mostly seasonal, with increased hours probable between October 1 and April 30. Hours are weather-dependent and determined by operational requirements. Some employees may be employed casually or on-call.
