Job Overview
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in architectural engineering technology, building construction technology, or other sub-professional architectural design field and experience equivalent to five years of full-time architectural technician work under the supervision of a design professional.
- Qualifying sub-professional architectural design experience may substitute for the required education to a maximum of two years (e.g., experience equivalent to one year of full-time sub professional architectural design work may substitute for one year of the required education).
- OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, engineering, industrial technology or other related field and experience equivalent to three years of sub professional architectural technician work under the supervision of a design professional.
- OR Five years of Project Technician experience with the State of Tennessee.
Competencies (KSA's)
- A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.
About the Role
Under general supervision, is responsible for sub professional architectural planning and design work of considerable difficulty and supervisory work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.
Distinctive Features
This is the highest level class in the Project Technician sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising a major component of sub-professional architectural planning, design, and analytic work relative to the State's housing and facility development programs, and for independently preparing complex plans and specifications which translate into efficient physical facilities.
Distinction
This class differs from that of Project Technician 3 in that incumbents of the latter perform lead work over subordinate project technician staff. This class differs from Project Manager 1 in that incumbents of the latter perform professional architectural duties.
Responsibilities
Performs detailed design development of complex facilities and facility components; provides technical guidance and supervision to others in lower technical classes engaged in this activity, and insures coordination of activities with program schedules, affected in-house staff and externally affected parties.
Leads and coordinates major technical research, facility evaluations, and analyses of significant building products, systems, components, equipment and furnishings for problem solving and for economies and efficiencies in the State's facilities management program.
Establishes and maintains contact with personnel in other departments, design professionals, facility owners, product representatives, and others in the facilities design and development community for the purpose of accomplishing a wide range of architectural planning, design and design review, acquisition, and installation activities.
Reviews requisitions for various State departments and agencies that involve interiors architecture and related items to insure compliance with current specifications and standards.
Makes recommendations to various State departments and agencies on problems concerning the physical work environment, interiors architecture, and facility utilization.
