Equipment Operator
About the role
The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating and maintaining heavy equipment to support aggregate production operations. This position operates large loaders, excavators, rock trucks, and hydraulic hammers to safely extract, move, process, and stockpile rock and other aggregate materials. The Equipment Operator plays a critical role in achieving production goals, maintaining product quality, and supporting a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate large loaders, excavators, rock trucks, hydraulic hammers, and related equipment to extract, move, process, and stockpile aggregate materials while maintaining efficient material flow throughout the quarry and plant.
- Achieve daily production and quality objectives by loading haul trucks, feeding crushing and screening operations, maintaining stockpiles and quarry-floor conditions, and following established production plans and leadership direction.
- Follow company safety policies, site traffic plans, workplace examination requirements, and applicable MSHA regulations; identify, communicate, and address hazards within the scope of the role.
- Maintain equipment readiness and minimize downtime by completing required pre- and post-shift inspections, reporting equipment defects or abnormal operating conditions, and performing basic cleaning, lubrication, servicing, and maintenance support activities.
- Maintain accurate equipment inspection, production, and safety documentation, and participate in required safety meetings, MSHA training, and other job-related training.
- Promote safe, coordinated, and continuous quarry operations by communicating effectively with supervisors, plant operators, mechanics, truck drivers, and team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change with or without notice.
- Travel to local plants in the region based on business needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Three or more years of experience safely operating heavy equipment in a quarry, mining, construction, asphalt plant, or similar industrial environment preferred.
- Experience operating large loaders, excavators, rock trucks, hydraulic hammers, or similar mobile equipment required.
- Ability to inspect equipment, identify operational or mechanical issues, and communicate maintenance needs effectively.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to assist with routine maintenance preferred.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position works indoors and outdoors at times in inclement weather. Heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100 lb. or more. This position works on or near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. Requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time as well as lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, reaching, driving, and repetitive motion.
