Equipment Operator
About the role
Responsible for set up, maintenance, and operation of marine blasting equipment. Monitor valves and gauges and adjust speed and feed of product. Monitor and maintain grit supply. Diagnose and repair problems with blasting equipment. Monitor and maintain up to three air compressors at a time. Monitor blasting operations and observe and maintain a safe work environment. Handle all blasting equipment and materials used in accordance with local regulations.
Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, and operate blast pot and hopper in a safe and efficient manner; make minor or major adjustments to speed and feed; monitor valves; use gauges to determine supply and demand of product; safely and efficiently operate forklift, dust collector, and pressure washer;
- Build or repair blast whip;
- Keep up and order grit so as to ensure supply is sufficient for job;
- Adjust and monitor maintenance and repair of air compressors;
- Correspond with company supervisors, employees, and shipyard personnel in a cooperative manner;
- Participate during mobilization of equipment in set up and breakdown of other equipment used to support blasting operations such as air conditioning, dust collection, and other environmental controls equipment;
- May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner;
- May be required to direct, assist, and train less experienced employees.
Requirements
- Must be able to do simple to complex math;
- Must be able to carry out written or verbal instructions;
- Must be able to problem solve, organize, and prioritize work;
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity;
- Experience with machinery required;
- Math skills helpful;
- Good communication skills necessary.
Qualifications
- High School or GED is preferred but not required;
- Two years’ experience operating blasting equipment.
